Hi chaps

I have just finished my designs for a whole home av system and I will incorporate a hdbaset over cat6 matrix once I find the one that fits my needs.

I've already wired my home for cat6 but these things can be fickle with interference so im going to pull a few more runs of cat6 ftp.

I had a hard time terminating utp with those little sled things and my crimp tool was only a cheap bay jobbie.

My required distance is no more than 20m to 4 tv points so I will run 1 cable to each (hdmi over hdbaset only requires 1)

I've seen some rated to 500mhz pre terminated on the bay and just wondered for the cost of 11.99 per 20m cable would I be better going down that route?

Anybody have experience of hdmi over cat6 here?

HDMI over Cat6 works fine as long as you have a decent set of transceivers and good cabling.

All the shielded cabling that I've crimped has been done with connectors that are nearly £1 a pop and an £80 crimp set, which made the job a lot easier. If you're able to run pre-terminated cable and know the distances involved then just buy it ready-made.

Yep I think I will go down the pre term route as I cant rely on the cheap crimp tool I have and its only going to be a one off so spending more wont yield any payback.

Only slight im worried about is the ends catching on something and breaking the plastic clips off. Will wrap them in electrical tape and try not to get any crap in the contacts.

Just on the HDMI over cat6 subject - is there any/much latency? I'd obviously expect a TINY bit but would you still consider it worth gaming on? Considering moving my PC's to a (custom built with excellent+probably loud cooling) cabinet in the basement and using some of my cat6 cable runs to hook up HDMI and USB for screen keyboard and mouse.

Would love to see pictures of peoples projects when they running cables through their houses..

Tbh i never noticed any when using my PS4. It was also in the understairs cupboard a good 10m away from where my tv is. Only issue was every once in awhile it would just flash on and off. I put this down to not using shielded cat6 however and nothing else. The extenders i had are £32 twin cat6 so you had to run two wires end to end. Now im looking at hdbaset which only needs one cat6 cable and can run through wall plates with POC (power over cable) so no need for a power adapter at one end.

I didnt need the 5v power adapter as my run was under 20m. I'd advise however if your runs are under 20m then go with a hdmi cable if you have room to run it.

I have mostly hdmi cable, but just for the upstairs televisions they now run via cat6 into my onkyo amp second output.

Personally, I would just run HDMI cables too, negating the need for HDMI over cat adapters.

You can get some nice faceplates with HDMI already in them which fit in networking euro mod facias
