I was just looking into putting an ftp folder on my webspace so someone I know can transfer files to me and during my investigations about how to do this I just replaced 'www' in my web address with 'ftp' to see what would happen. it redirected to a completely unrelated website.

My websitse address is http://www.neilsampson.co.uk but it goes to some film makers website if I type http://ftp.neilsampson.co.uk

Is this normal and should I be concerned? It doesn't feel right to me.

Your website is on a shared server. This essentially means that several websites are packed onto one server/ip address; when you go to neilsampson.co.uk the hosting company's software knows to forward you to your website's files, or when you go to abadifilms.com it knows to forward you to their website.

The IP address of your website is 195.62.28.19 - it just so happens that the Abadi site is the default website for that IP - http://195.62.28.19 the only way around it would be to configure wildcards so that *.neilsampson.co.uk always gets to your site. You should be able to do this through your DNS configuration. Or, you should be able to set-up subdomains within your control panel if you want to just setup a select few.

C:\Users\*>nslookup neilsampson.co.uk
Server: mygateway1.ar7
Address: 192.168.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: neilsampson.co.uk
Address: 195.62.28.19

TL;DR:
It's fine :p

Many thanks Pho, that all makes perfect sense now. I just wanted to double check nothing funny was going on.

Thanks swinnie too. I've got that bit sorted now but was curious as to why the page was redirecting.
