ftp server securtiy on a NAS

Hi, I have configured an ftp server with password protection on my Buffalo Linkstation NAS. I have setup my router to redirect port 20-21 to the IP of the Linkstation.

I have setup one folder for use on the server, the rest of the data on the drive is private.

How secure will this be and does it make the rest of my system vunerable?

This is the first time I have attempted this so any advice would be appreciated.
