Wooooah! I indeed managed to get it to work! ie: Backup via FTP from my server to my PC. I stand by my comments about it being rather unfriendly (something I'd heard from reviews too). In the end the way I achieved this was by defining a 'restore'
I'm of course not restoring from my website, I'm backing it up. However, you can only define the destination as FTP, so you have to turn the entire process on its head to achieve what I'm doing and in effect treat it as a restore to your PC from the website...
All very confusing and obviously with a live webserver rather nerver racking on the first few runs. I was scared I'd start restoring data TO the webserver
