Hi,

According to the BT website my exchange (Farnborough) is due to be upgraded by the end of June 2010.

Is there a way to find out: -

a) Where my local street cabinet is and...
b) More importantly, which cabinets BT will upgrade as part of the rollout?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that to date BT upgrade every cabinet served by the exchange, that may change in future but for now I believe it's true...

Well we've got FTTC available in Basingstoke now but they haven't upgraded every cab around here. Most of them are done but one of the areas quite a way out of the town centre still served by the actual main Basingstoke exchange hasn't been upgraded. Seems quite stupid really as those guys are stuck with around 512Kbps connections due to it being a long way from the exchange. Also another area not quite as far from the exchange (that has around 5Mbit ish speeds available to it) doesn't seem to be getting upgraded either. Not sure what's going on really.

samknows is the best place to find out http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php?page=availability-exchange-search enter your post code and it will tell you what cabinet you are connected to

That only appears to advise which exchange your connected to rather than the cabinet location that the OP is after.

This is very much a concern for me as even if my exchange was upgraded I can see being on the end of the exchange my cabinet being missed... the cabinets not too far either...

Yeah i checked my exchange Crowthorne and thats due to be done late summer 2010 xD cant wait! we only get 1.5mb on one line and 3mb on the business line, hopefully BT will offer an upgrade option to business to have a fibre run directly into the house, if it increases speeds i know we will have it done

Does the work carried out on the cabinet or new cabinet require planning permission? If so could you find out from the council which are going to be upgraded?

I have looked at all the info on Basingstoke and am very impressed with the campaign that was run to get that area upgraded, wish it could be the same for Farnborough.

I'm currently in a Not Spot along with most of the residential areas of Farnborough. We get 400kbs max download :-(

Regards,

Simpic

Lucky you! :p I'm just off Trunk Road in Cove (the Fleet side of Farnborough), and I get about 140kbs.

There's a cabinet about 300m away at the end of Broadhurst, so I'm hoping that'll improve if BT decide to put fibre to it.

what part of town are u in?
as from what i've seen, Oakridge, Popley and South View have new cabinets around.
I think it's only certain areas of town that have been upgraded to FTTC.
