As per the title my exchange is due for FTTC in March 2012. I live in a village at the very limit for ADSL (You are approximately 4.70km from the exchange) so I'm really hoping that BT will run fibre to the local CAB which would be great, however as this is BT I expect they won't due to return on investment. Is there anyway to find out which cabinets will be done as part of the process? The exchange is Alfreton

If I run a SamKnows against my Tel + Postcode I get the following;

BT FTTC broadband availability
You are connected to the Alfreton telephone exchange.

FTTC should be available in your area from 01/03/2012

Downstream Min: 15.8 Mbps
Downstream Max: 28.2 Mbps
Upstream Min: 2.2 Mbps
Upstream Max: 11 Mbps

Is there anyway to get this info from BT?

Any advice appreciated

Cant check my number as im not with bt. Postcode says its available. A couple of neighbouring telephone numbers show nothing for fttc

Hijack i know but im confused?

My number brings up ADSL2+ 1up/6down yet what i actualy get is 2up/14down?

According to the april 2011 openreach document that is doing the rounds, it says you are connected to cabinet 4 on the alfreton exchange.

According to the doc (note it is quite old), you are not due to get FTTC. however things may have changed, but it does not look like it is in the initial rollout.

I would message adsl24 on the thinkbroadband forums for confirmation though, as they will have more upto date information. If a green fibre cabinet has been put up by cabinet 4 then you are in luck!

Thats great but not the news I was after. I have messaged ADSL24 and will see what they come back with. I wonder if we (the village) can get some of that Government funding for rural broadband to subsidise the cost to BT in the hope they will run the required length of fibre!

Dont use samknows, use the BT ADSL availability checker - this was updated a few days ago. Type your phone number in it, and copy and paste what it says in this thread.

Cheers for that link, I knew our exchange would be enabled in march 2012 but that has given my cabinet a date of 30th June to be enabled, and estimated speeds of 31.5 down/12.3 up, so much better than the 2 down/0.5 up I get now :)
Just over 6 months till decent broadband :D

Daz I would always take the date they give you with a pinch of salt. It's just a placeholder date and could be done by June. My exchange and cabinet was due to go live in march 2011, the exchange did but my cab still has no fttc, one year on

i've just been out for a wander and have just noticed a bt openreach poster on the green box over the road saying "fibre is here". not that it matters for me as i've just lumbered myself with a virgin contract. :p

I am, sort of makes sense though for the exchange to go live in March but the cabinet up to 3 months later. I'm not holding my breath but at least I know my cabinet will be done and thats good enough for me :)

That would explain the weirdness about my exchange on BT's Infinity site. Going through the Postcode checker (I don't have a BT line so no BT number) says that my exchange will have FTTC by March 2012. Yet going through the map, my town is listed as having it now.
