A client has 4 offices in Conservation Areas around the country. All the local exchanges are FTTC enabled but none of the offices are able to get FTTC due to the FTTC cabinet planning situation in Conservation Areas.

The BT Infinity website doesn't list any information at all for their sites any more, despite them receiving all the 'build up' emails about "Infinity is coming to your area soon", which has left them chomping at the bit.

Is there a list or website for all the Conservation Area planning applications for FTTC cabs?

I think someone is making excuses here. There is no "planning situation". As borich said, BT need to get Prior Approval from planning for the siting and design of the cabinets, but this is a relatively straightforward process.

Conservation areas outside cities tend not to be densely populated and I suspect its an economic issue rather than planning.

I had some involvement in 12 such applications in an historic city and 10 were approved. One was withdrawn because of an issue over land ownership - what BT thought was highway land was actually privately owned. A couple of them the planner asked them to revise the position - they can actually put them up to 50M away from the original cabinet, provided they can get a duct between and there are no legal issues over land ownership. One ended up over the road because it could be partly hidden behind a traffic signals control box to minimise the visual impact. The Conservation Officer asked for one of the cabinets to be painted in a different colour as they were going up against a light coloured historic stone wall. BT's consultants were happy to carry out revisions.

Interesting!

So in all of these areas, BT have failed to get Prior Approval for the cabinets?
Knowing BT's literally infinite capacity for incompetence, this doesn't surprise me.

On the other hand, maybe the cost of works is simply too high to make the cabinets economical... We'll never know. :)

Bath & North East Somerset, Cambridge, Canterbury, and Cheshire West and Chester councils. They also have another site under Shropshire council whose exchange is FTTC enabled.
This brings the total to 5 offices with enabled exchanges, 0 with FTTC availability :)
