Hi all,

Apparently FTTC is now available in my area, but I have a, probably stupid, question about the connection in the house.

I currently extend my BT phone socket into the loft using normal telephone extension cabling, so I can have my ADSL modem/router and other IT stuff tucked away.

Would having FTTC installed affect that at all?

From what I gather, nothing changes in the house, it just means there is fibre from the exchange to the box at the end of the street, and then normal copper connection to my house.

I've read that someone had to change their BT socket faceplate or something, is that normal?

Thanks, any info is much appreciated.

Edward

They often change the faceplate but that's it, you can take whatever feed out of that you desire. Yeah FTTC is fibre to the green cab, copper picks up the rest as it is now

make sure they fit a MKII or MKII faceplate to your master socket.... as those are the latest that the engineers will install for VDSL.
once they do that they will readd your extension cable to the socket, but most of the time it just takes them to switch over the cable from adsl to vdsl from within the cab outside your property.... all cables and extentions in your house should work without them even entering it.....
just swap the router your using for there`s or if you have a better one just swap it and during your go live day you will loose phone and broadband for about 5-20 minutes and be back up in vdsl mode. make sure your router is set so that it automaticly switches from adsl to vdsl and thats about it.

though i would highly recommend a engineer visit just to get him to check your wiring ect is ok and that you have a MKII or MKIII faceplate fitted. as those face plates have better noise filtering.
