Quick question, My exchange is due to be enabled some time next year for FTTC. I was on the BT wholesale checker and as I get my phone through sky I used the post code checker and got this:

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your postcode indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 2Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 3.5Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 2.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 4Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed between 28.7 to 31.5 Mbps and upstream line speed between 6.2 to 7.2 Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

Thank you for your interest.

Great I thought, looks like I can get FTTC when my exchange is enabled.

However, I tried it with the address checker and the bit above highlighted in bold was not there. Does this mean my cabinet will not be upgraded?

Thanks in advance

Address = postcode?

Your postcode might be served by several cabinets.

I am aware of that. What I mean is when I just put my postcode, I got the message above, when I was more specific, ie putting my whole address in, house number and street as well as postcode, the extra info about the fttc was not there.

So my question is still does this mean my specific cabinet for my address will not be upgraded?

100% of premises in your postcode area are connected to cab #9, so it looks like you can already place your order for FTTC! :)

Wow thanks very much for that, though according to samknows my exchange isn't due to be enabled till 01/03/2012 but its nice to know. I take it it will be 18.66 times faster than what I get now?

again thanks for the info, just made me very happy :D

Count yourself lucky your area is deemed "profitable", there's a hell of a lot of places in your current position that won't be getting FTTC any time soon.

Don't I know it! I was quite surprised that we were getting it as soon as we are tbh, there are over 7200 residential properties connected to it but the reason maybe because there seem to be a lot of new build estates popping up in the area it serves.
