Hi all,

Our road has been getting dug up a few weeks ago and spoke to the guys doing the work and they said they were installing FTTP cabling.

This cable goes literally in front of our house, so about 1m from our driveway, so naturally I was looking online for any dates for when it'll be activated, however can see no record on openreach for this??

It just says no works planned on all their postcode checkers - even for the whole village. I even know some people who have FTTP installed already and it's working.

Can anyone help me work out if this is normal or who I can ask?!?

Yes, I actually just found this site (really cool!) - it says openreach local and shows addresses where it's being installed, but openreach says nothing planned for the whole village?!

Yeah I don't think it gives much in the way of what might have been deployed but not yet activated. We've had I think it's a company called grain who were installing the fibre a few weeks ago, have been back a few times for various things. But nothing on their website about its availability.

Just keep checking it every week, once the ground work has been done it will take a few weeks to do live, probably with BT direct first and then other ISP's within a few weeks.

When FTTP went live for me there was no record of it anywhere on any of openreach's sites or press releases etc. The only indication was a bunch of Openreach activity in the street and my neighbour going out to pester them about what they were doing.

About a week after it went live, the first mailshot arrived, first from BT and then others.

Ah right, ok if it's 'normal' incompetence, then that's fine - I'll keep checking, just wanted to check I'm not missing anything!

Thanks all!

We've had various FTTP related roadworks going on for ~9 months, initially no information as to any plans by anyone until stuff started appearing on biduk then eventually GigaClear leaflet dropped the area though their reviews don't look good - now couple of other providers are starting to show a leg but it is all very obtuse and slow moving, not helped by one of the local providers playing silly games to try and protect their more lucrative income at the expense of the consumer.

With grain they let you sign up before they even start the dig.
