FTTP with either Sky or Vodafone

Close by Southend yes. I was lucky my road was apparently one of the first in the country.

Yeah they started by Eastwood, now they've covered most of Southend & Shoeburyness with works going on in Leigh-on-Sea now.
Looks like they've still got Canvey/Benfleet/Hadleigh/Rayleigh/Billericay/Stanford-le-hope all on the plans.

Thats good news. I can tell you mine has been lightening fast since day 1 with no issues at all. 60gb download? no worries 15 mins... its total madness, you get to the point where your internet speeds are starting to keep up with gigabit lan.

Yeah mines literally always 940/940, I've been with them ever since my address got added, I think I mentioned it before I recently renewed another 24months, good thing my contract has no increases for CPI.
I'd love to see a traceroute to maybe bbc.co.uk, to see if you get the same ping/routing as me :)

So had another phone call with BT values team last night, absolutely no movement on the 500 for 49.99 but they said they can reduce the 900 to 58.99 with the Halo benefits removed.

I mentioned that out of the last 9 years, i'd spent 8 of those as a customer and i'd expect to be offered something similar to the new customer prices (500 @ £40, 900 @ £50), nope, that's not allowed. I said i'll be cancelling then and the guy basically said 'ok, cya' - I might be paraphrasing :D

I then went onto Vodafone site and ordered the 500 package at £29/month with £90 cashback - being activated 11th March.

Thanks for all the feedback though folks.

Pretty good price, 900Mbps is pretty pointless anyway vs 500Mbps for most, so you're not really missing out on anything.
Hopefully the install goes smoothly :)

Yeah, my 900/110 was mainly to get the upload speed.

It is great for quick downloads of large games when the mood suddenly takes you as it can do just under 400Gb in an hour.

Ah makes sense then for the upload, yeah I do have 940/940.
It is nice when I do utilize it, but most of the time my average bandwidth is way lower as will most peoples.
That said, I do average 10-12TB/mo.

Go live tomorrow, equipment came yesterday, router, wireless extender and backup dongle in case of downtime with 50GB data - just need to plug in prior to 8AM and gets activated some point through the day.

Absolutely no follow up or attempt by BT to retain my custom.

Agreed, I'm on 1Gbps Hyperoptic and there are very few sites/services I've come across that utilise all that bandwidth. Steam and PSN downloads are able to saturate it, as does uploading files to Google Drive, but everything else seems to bottom peak at around half that.

Well, it's alive, initial speed test says speeds are right on the money, real world usage will become apparent over next few weeks.

Yeah, it's a nice to have but never really needed, I utilised the upload speed of 110 far more than the full download speed.

Just to update, Vodafone performing identically to BT across last 10 days or so, maxes the available speed, good pings/etc, can't fault it and at a far more agreeable price point, saving £21/month.

Yeah not even that, it's like how often do you need to download something big enough where the speed difference will actually save you a lot of time.d
Cause for me it's pretty rare I download something over 100GB where the time difference would actually be significant.
I still have 940Mbps because the price difference is so small, but in reality I would see pretty much no difference if I did have 500Mbps.

I think if you have a lot of people on your network and they're plugged in via cable and it's easy for someone to saturate the link, and it happens often it would make sense.

Yeah there network is pretty good, it's mainly the support side of things that's a bit lacking. But rare I've had to contact them luckily, only for billing in my case.

My voda went live today, DL went from 150 to 205, UL from 30 to 28, and ping from 1 to 3. Can't complain for a 25% price reduction over BT :)
