FUBAR'ed cd/dvd drive?

Hi lads i have a problem with the DVD drive on my laptop, it will read CD & DVD but will not write them, also when you do go to burn either, it does not come up with a failed write, it complete's but when you check the disk its still blank>> possibly shot? (i think so) , anybody know of anything else i could do to confirm the unit is FUBAR'ed

there are no problems or faults showing in device manager either.

Laptop is a Samsung R70

Vista HP 32bit

DVD unit is a TS corp TS-L632D

anyone have any ideas?

Does sound like its had it, have you tried a different burning program just to make sure. They're not expensive to replace and fairly straight forward, usually just single screw holding them in from underneath.

Yes i'm starting to think it is Buggered as i have also tried Nero 9 and it also fails the write simulation that i tried, do you reckon about £25 for a new one
