Hi guys,

My mate has an R6 and whenever he rides past my house he says he flicks his fuel cut off then on again, which makes his exhaust pop/bang quite loudly. He says he does this to say hello as he can't be bothered to get off and knock on the door for a chat lol.

I was just wondering, is this doing any damage to his bike? He does it quite a lot.

Ta.

Its not the fuel cut off switch, its the kill switch.

Yea, wont be doing his bike any favours by doing it all the time.....

Lol. His horn is rubbish. He has some form of aftermarket exhaust on it. He likes maximum effect. I was following him along in my car once at night and he done it, a small burst of flames came out the exhaust. It looks and sounds cool but I'm always worried he is gonna kill it. Ah well. His bike, his choice lol.

And yeah kill switch (shows how much I know about bikes) lol.

Its just burning the unburnt fuel that's dumped when he kills the ignition, it will wear the exhaust valves but by how much I have no idea, I just know that when a bike is fueled wrong that's whats most likely to go first along with it possibly knackering the exhaust packing over time.

**EDIT** Actually rereading what I wrote and Phage above it is just the unburnt fuel so I don't think it will do anything to the valves as its already been pushed out.

There's an overrun mapping for cars will do a similar thing, lifting off over x-amount of RPM will dump fuel in to the exhaust causing pops & bangs.

I'm sure a horn would suffice and not annoy the neighbours :p

Indeed it is doable in a car, friend use to do it in his R5 GTT was so damn loud! Did it going past people, made em cack themselves.

Does it when you let off if you have a hole in your exhaust.

Got to question what damage regular explosions in your exhaust will cause....

i think this old trick only works on bikes with carbs, as with FI when you hit kill the injectors stop squirting...

really well mapped bikes don't bang on overrun to much, FACT :) (though mine does hum)
