I have a fuel leak at the top of my petrol tank, on the join where a pipe goes into it.

It's only leaking when the engine is running.

Is there anything you can get to put into the fuel that can seal leaks?
Or am I going to need a new tank?

thanks

You cant get anything that goes into the fuel, but you can get petropatch or leak fix which will seal up the hole from the outside.

It looks like a metal pipe, possibly the filler pipe. I'll go and check though.

I'm not sure a patch will work as it's on the join.

Car is a '98 Mondeo ST24 btw.

Its not actually a patch, its just called that, its more like a putty or paste depending on what product you get. Similar to chemical metal.

ok, cheers. I'll have a look for some tomorrow.

My frined works in a body shop that uses a bonding agent for metal to metal, strong as a weld apparantly, use it for roof rail clips etc where welding could do more harm than good.
Maybe that would help to seal it?

Halfords *shudder* should sell it, but try a local motorfactors first, they should have some and it'll probably be cheaper.

Sorry but that is almost sig quote worthy :p

Yes is the answer but only on e-bay not only will it seal leaks but will give you +50Bhp ;)

Fuel leaks are bad, since the system is pressurised you really need a good seal, sort it proper don't bodge it.

lol I know it wasn't likely but I had to ask.

I'm currently trying to drain some fuel but it's not proving easy. I've taken the pipe off the fuel filter, this is the pipe that comes from the pump in the tank, but when I turn the ignition to get the pump working it only stays on for about 2 seconds.
