Fuel tap left off

Can turning your fuel tap/valve (petcock valve?) off, then riding the bike straight away cause any harm to the engine?

No, it will just conk out a short distance later.

might suck some bits up from in the tank,but usually the tanks main/reserve pipes have filters on the end of em and another filter in the fuel pipe

if the taps off how can it suck bits or anything including fuel from the tank
