We have had a Fujifilm F31fd for about 2 years now which has been brilliant, however my girlfriend recently dropped it with the lens out and how the lens is stuck out at a slight angle, it now says 'zoom error' when I turn it back on.

I asked Fuji online repair centre for a quote for repair who stated £88 plus 1 year warranty for the whole camera. I am not sure if this is a good deal or not, I am wondering whether to get the repairs done, or go for one of the cameras they offered special deals on. One that wasn't mentioned on there was the F50, I read reviews on this one and it appears that its not as good quality as the F31fd?!

Other than the F40 (which uses XD), I am not sure what is the equivalent to the F31fd nowadays, we paid about £200 two years ago, but is it possible to get the same quality for less now? I really like the camera in terms of quality - which I have seen mentioned on here a lot! But I am really confused as to what there is on the market now (it doesn't have to be a brand new model), as I can't seem to find any that compares! The only reason I am not going straight away to get this one fixed is that it uses XD cards - painfully slow transfer time! I would also like a wide angle lens.. So going on the above, what would anyone recommend for a compact camera? (are Samsung any good?) Surely, two years on from this one, there is a compact camera that matches the F31fd?? (Or would anyone able to fix this one?!)

My youngest got hold of my old Fuji, same thing happened. Gave the lens a good shove and it made a horrible noise but jump back. Works fine btw. You might as well try getting it back in, they'll change the lens assembly anyway if you send it back for repair. It's amazing what you can get now, got a GE E1050TW 10.1MP 3" LCD touchscreen for £50.

Oh I gave him the camera for his first one, little dude loves it.
