I looking at two cameras, Fuji S1000FD and Fuji S8100. If these were the only two cameras available which would be the best out of the two?

We have a budget of £200 max and my father-in-law has a fuji s9100 which does a really good job so something along those lines would be good.

They are both very very similar. The only noticible difference is the lens the 8100 has. If you really need the extra magnification, get the 8100, if not get the s1000fd. The 8100 has such a large range of focal lengths; 28-478mm(!) i suspect that it may suffer because of it.

I have the S8100FD and I absolutely love it. It's fantastic to have such a large zoom. However I have noticed that this camera performs much better outside than it does indoors where the pictures tend to be sometimes grainy. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong but apart from that it does everything I could ever want a camera to do.
