With Mohammed Al Fayed selling Harrods for a cool £1.5bn....They now have to be in the top 5 in the premiership for the richest owners.

I know they ground is small but if Mohammed Al Fayed went a bit mad & flashed the cash do you think players would really want to go & play for them. Part of me thinks that if Roy Hodgson stays in charge they might be able to get a few very good players & be a very good top 5/6 team next season but if he goes im not sure if any one would join them.

Yeah i know its if n buts, but be interesting to see if they splash the cash

I doubt he sold Harrods to fund Fulham. Even so, £1.5 billion is fairly small fry compared to some owners. They will have money to spend in the summer but will still only aim for top 10 with a cup run. The stadium is the biggest holdback but I don't think Fulham have the support to justify an expansion. They doing just about fine as they are really.

He won't do that, he won't run a club by just plumping money in for the sake of it, he's had enough backing to do that for a long, long time he just chooses not to. As a Fulham fan I much prefer how the club is being run right now rather than just spending a load of cash on players, we've built a team on a low budget, and it shows what can be done with the hard work. Just need slightly better versions of the players we have in certain positions. 'Fulham' are £160m in debt, apparently - all owed by the owner, so he will probably pay that off, put in a little money - but he won't just but £20m players.

Also, he can't knock down all of the Cottage, should he want to re-build, he has to keep the old 'Cottage' area, and I actually like the stadium how it is, perhaps hitting 30k seats would be OK, but it doesn't need excessive re-shapping just because he's got some money. Don't forget he paid £600m back when he bought Harrods, he's had the money (albeit borrowed), just he is running the club well as it is.

Also, how the club is we don't have any major stars, and thats exactly what has made us a better team, we've given a lot of players that careers have stalled, but still have the potential and want to prove themselves and others, looking at our first team we have quite a few reserves or second rate players from other teams; John Pantsil, Danny Murphy, Bobby Zamora, Aaron Hughes, Dickson Etuhu and even a couple more.

Also it won't be all that £1.5bn hitting his bank account, he has borrowed money from everywhere afaik, he's a dodgy ****** :p

Yeah Al Fayed came out and said he won't risk the club with huge spending about 3 months ago didn't he?

You'll probably hate the comparison but it's not unlike ourselves.

Chairman is worth a few hundred million (@~£400m) but won't spend money for the sake of it, and long may it continue. Even the "stalled" careers part is mirrored here (Etherington anyone?)

Oh, but we're debt-free. Nerrr nerrr. :D

So are we, technically.

But yeah he doesn't want to just plump money in, and not get a decent return. I'd say we're on quite a profit this season from sales, TV fee's and competitions etc.

Only worrying thing is, suddenly selling Harrods, lets hope he doesn't suddenly sell Fulham!

If he did you could get some exciting middle-eastern investors like Portsmouth? :o

If Al Fayed was going to jump ship and sell, now would be a good time to do it for exactly the same reasons the original poster thought he should invest. At this point in time he'd get the best price.

Is he actually just getting £1.5bn cash in one go though? Does he have any other investments etc where the money could be going?

I think it is rather fanciful to believe that he's sold a business solely to plough cash into Fulham FC.

no way he is keeping fulham. and the person that buys fulham is going to be a very luck person.

a London premier league team such as fulham is very attractive to investors, compared to ****ty QPR.

i too dont believe that he sold harrods because he got excited that fulham are doing so well

He never sold Harrods for Fulham. Whether he'll keep fulham or not I'm not sure, when he first bought it people thought it was for the land, but it obviously wasn't. I dunno if he will sell it so soon, though. Hate for it to be bought over like Man City though. He tried to sell harrods years ago but go offers in half of his valuation. He sold because he got a ridiculous price for it.

Should Fulham win, looks like an amount of money might be put in, although in fairness Hodgson hasn't spent too much as manager (after selling), and since the flops from Sanchez (£20-24m worth) I guess at least it's someone trustworthy;

Al Fayed said:
“This award shows that occasionally football makes the right decision, and Roy is it; now all he has to do is win the Europa League competition and I will pay the excess baggage for him to bring the trophy back. Congratulations!”

I read somewhere Harrods had £600m loans which has to be paid off also

so Fayed only gained a MEASLY £900m or so - reallllllllyyyyy small fry :D

Personally think the performance in the Europa League final will count for more than this sale - actually atracting foreign players to Fulham and how they play (as long as they dont get stage fright on the night of course lol)
