I currently use Canon 80D and it's a terrific camera. However I do have the Full Frame itch and would love to try it for a while.
I have been offered an original 6D locally for around £450-£500 (I think there's a bit more room for haggling). Now I know that overall the 80D is a much better all round camera but rather than selling my 80D and buying a 6D Mkii (I really can't afford to touch the 5D models) would it be worth my while buying this 6D and keeping both cameras? This would then allow me a chance to see if FF is for me or not plus with it being cheap(ish) to begin with I could sell down the line for not much loss. I currently have 4 lenses with the Canon 10-18mm being my only EF-s lens, the rest are all Canon EF lenses so glass isn't an issue.

I don't do any video work at all just stills. Of that 80% is landscapes and astrophotography. The rest is outdoor sports (football and motorsports mainly). I have helped second shoot the very odd wedding but it's far from a profession.

I would have both for a while as well,I'm thinking about going full frame but not sure so will keep my canon 750d and get a full frame within the next year, might even see if a friend had one so I can borrow it for a while.

The 6d is a very good low light performer and a great camera for what you will use it for. The autofocus system is pretty basic compared to newer camera's but the sensor performance is excellent. I sold mine recently for £550 in mint condition and 8000 shutter count - so if you get it for less than that you are doing pretty well.

Didn't go through with this one in the end. The 6D I had my eye on had 136,000 actuations. I probably could have got it down to £400 but it just didn't seem worth the chance.
I'll maybe try for another 6D or just save and ask Santa to fund the rest for a Mkii!

I'd get an A7III over a MKII if you really wanted to go FF as it is a better camera in every aspect. (Other than you will need an adapter for your current lenses)

Bought a 6DII last October. Downgrade with respect to AF coverage and the rear controls (really miss the joystick) of the 7D it replaces.

I’ll be upgrading to a 5DIV when the 5DV comes along just to get the joystick back.

Long story short is I cannot fault the IQ or focus accuracy.

Paired with 16-35 F4 IS and 24-105 F4 IS II which are also tack sharp.

IQ between the Mk I and II isn’t much so a decent Mk I seems like a cheap way to get much better IQ.

Keep the 80D and get the 6D as a second for a try before you ditch the 80D.

I find the overall usability of the 80D is far better than the 6D ... its quick focus etc, makes for better use day to day when youre pointing at something and shooting. That being said, the smoothness and niceness (lack of techinical terms I know ) quality of the image from the 6D is better by a mile (imho). The downside being its focussing is less snappy.

On looking at reviews and pixel peeping, I cant say that the 6D mk2 , or even other 5D's images had the same lushness of the original 6D.
