I'm currently looking for a new build & would like a few tips/ideas or suggestions.

CPU
5930K @ 2011 socket or the 4790K for 1150 Socket. (I plan on over-clocking either with AIO coolers).

Motherboard
Asus DELUXE (maybe the extreme) or the Maximus Hero.

Storage
M.2 Samsung SM951 256GB - Operating system.
x2 Crucial 500GB - Games

PSU
1600W/1300W EVGA

Memory
16GB 3000MHz (Quad) or 16GB 2133MHz

Case
Corsair Series 780T

MISC
Optical drive

Graphics cards
GTX 980ti X2 (AIO) or Fury X x3 (if they fix the pumps :p)

This will be for 4k gaming mostly, with some 3d modelling/photoshop texture work.

If you went socket 2011-3 (X99) and a pair of 980Ti cards then 1000W PSU will be enough.

Due to your uses it would make more sense to go for that rather than Z97 as you get more powerful CPUs.

Yeah, I was thinking that - just wasn't 100% sure on the real world differences outside of benchmarking (not that interesting in that side of things).

The total cost is around £3/400 difference between the two socket setups listed most from the last time I checked so not huge considering the total systems cost.

Good to know a 1000w will be enough, I always end up getting too much PSU capacity when I buy.

Regarding M.2, do any motherboards support double sockets built in (for raid m.2?) - I do like my boot times to be super speedy!.

Cheers for the pointers.

I have seen boards with 2 m.2 slots but not sure if you can RAID them and also not all m.2 slots get full bandwidth, this varies between boards/manufactures.

So instead of getting 4x lanes to each m.2 they maybe 2x only.

I'll investigate further - will be my first venture into m.2 so I'll happily say I know little about it.

Even so, the single Samsung SM951 in pcie3 x4 should be a huge improvement over my old first gen SSD from the looks of it.
