Just a short introduction (now I've managed to bypass the captcha on registration
), my machine is due for a rebuild after my second 8800GTX in as many months decided to give up the ghost. Artifacts on the screen etc so I thought, time to upgrade.
I've currently got an XClio A380, now whether it was just down to my 8800GTXs being duff I always thought they ran 'far' too hot. I'm talking around the 80 degree mark idling and 105 under load (stock settings), I put this down to the case given most users reported around 60/80 idle/load temps and I saw high temps on both cards from separate purchases.
Now I've been looking at a number of cases and limiting myself to full towers. I love the space and expandability, plus a smaller case might look silly on my desk (see links below). There seems to be a good number of affordale and decent cases in the mid-tower range that I might be neglecting. Any suggestions for suitable cases would be great, I've already considered the NZXT phantom (love the look but issues with access from the left side of the desk, again see below), HAF X, XPredator, DF-85 and others.
I've got the Asus p8p67, i7 2600k and the CoolerMaster V6GT cooler by the way, so heatsink clearance may be an issue. Just one 6970 for now with the intention of adding 2 more later.
For those interested (and by way of introduction), allow me to share the desk that I built about a year and a half ago for my personal PC experience

I have more pics of the design/build steps I can put up.
tl;dr Are mid-tower cases more than adequate for multi sli/xfire and sufficient airflow or should I stick with full towers
