Hi all

Unfortunately my wife has decided we need one of these, currently looking at silent night.

Obviously I’ve done a bit of research and they seem a right pain in terms of assembly and cost.

Has anyone got any experience of purchasing one and what was your experience like?

Thanks a lot

We got similar to above, very easy to set up. Be warned they are a pain to keep clean underneath, you will have socks, phones, dust and all sort of other things go under.
When full, unlike sofas they are hard to move around so hard to clean underneath.

We've just been through the nightmare/minefield that was buying a new bed & mattress.

We were quoted over £6k for a Superking mattress (Benson's iGel 4400) and Ottoman bed with headboard - headboard alone was £700!

Decided to take a chance on one of the many bed firms online, after we found the same mattress on eBay for £950 (brand new).

Everest Beds offered a full divan ottoman, with floor standing headboard in the fabric & colour we wanted (Coniston in charcoal grey), for £510 delivered:
(I think the King size is about £100 cheaper)

Pics:

Bed was delivered about 7 days after ordering - it was in three parts: 2x divan bases which bolt together and the headboard. Definitely recommend the floor standing version, as I think the one on "stalks" would be a bit flimsy.

Really well made - gas struts are powerful and lift our extremely heavy (46cm deep) mattress with ease. I also particularly liked the non-slip material on the bed base, which stops the mattress sliding around.

Yeah I’ve ordered the mattress from Amazon so we can send it back if we want to.

It was £325, the same make, slightly different model name was £900 from dreams. So err seemed worth a punt.
Probably going to order the base and headboard from dreams as some of them don’t seem too bad, so we have gone from looking at a spend of 2k to a possible 1k or so.

As I’m getting on a bit I’m going to pay them to assemble it.

Thanks for the write-up, we're looking for a new bed and offerings definitely seem all over the place.

It sounds like something like this could be just the job, I was a bit concerned about it having enough grunt to lift our heavy mattress without feeling flimsy.

Presumably it feels solid enough for you rummaging through the things in storage?

Hi,
If the bed is lifted all the way, then the pneumatic struts stay put and you can rummage away. If you don't lift the mattress up fully (because the pillows got in the way), then I wouldn't trust the struts not to let the bed close on you.

I keep my medication stockpile in the ottoman whilst we're doing the renovations downstairs, so I need to access it pretty frequently. The only time I was concerned it might close on me, is when I didn't pull the pillows out of the way first.

The bed's well made and solid (corners reinforced, connecting bolts at both ends plus clips along the edge) - will report back any issues if they pop up.

I bought one from Hypnos and so far it's good. I didn't get a headboard (will be doing a custom one) but I'm sure that'll be as good quality as the bed

That's a good price - we spotted the same in Superking, but wanted a closed-off ottoman, rather than the open slats - our house is a dust magnet and also having animals, it's hard keeping on top of fur/fluff.
Having a sealed ottoman means we can keep bedding available (with seasonal clothes in vacuum bags), without worrying they'll get dusty & furry.

Yeah that model doesn't have a bottom either.. It's just a heavy duty fabric that is attached to the frame with velcro strips.. Which is fine for me and it keeps the price a bit lower, but appreciate it's not a suitable design for everyone.
