In short, i'm looking to upgrade the aesthetics of my current build and take advantage of the latest lighting/fan customisation options that have advanced quite a bit since I built my current rig which I don't plan on upgrading just yet. (I have also purchased a Lian Li pc-011 that i'll be transferring the built into). Built in late 2015 and what I'm running is a core i7 4790k 1150 devils canyon CPU with and VII ranger (https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-vii-ranger-model/). Although I'm fairly sure that the headers used for these modern software controlled rgb fans didn't even exist back then. Basically I'm looking to be educated on what hardware I need with my setup to be able to control the lighting via software and also be able to add additional fans, LED strips etc.
I've done a fair amount of research on the popular fan options, which at this point I can only say corsair and not much else. Which is frustrating because I was also looking for advice as to if spending this much on fans would actually be worth it for me, and if there are cheaper options that would suite my needs, since I am getting these fans purely for the aesthetic benefit, I don't need a substantial amount of cooling in my build so any performance benefit that I am paying for by going with corsair is going to waste. How the fans look however is important to me, along with their compatibility/ease of use in software which I what Is what separates corsair from the rest. I still keep thinking that there must be other fans and rgb platforms that can match corsair for their aesthetics and software, and with the built/performance of the fan being irrelevant, I could make a better choice?

The best selling corsair fans seem to be the QL120, LL120, & SP120. The SP120 is the only one that it compatible with corsairs ICUE software, I was assuming this was the latest software addition and would therefore make the SP120 the preferred choice? I'm pretty lost at this point as I'm still trying to get a handle on all of the corsair lighting nodes/hubs in the corsair range. Could someone explain or just summarise the range of fans and controller/lighting accessories including both what is required since I have an old motherboard, and what features these things have?
