Can anyone spec a better machine than.....

Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E2160 Processor (1.8GHz,800MHz,1MB cache)
2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
80GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst™ cache
Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100
16x DVD +/- RW Drive
+ Standard case, Keyboard and mouse.

for £188.07.

Or to make it a bit easier. £200?

Just after a new machine for mum and this one comes ready made from a competitor for £188.07, just wondering if anyone can spec a better machine for £200 max?

Thats what I thought, the actual system only costs like £110, it the VAT and shipping where they sting you. Anyway, cant grumble thats a good spec for £180, just wanted to see if there were any other options for that price.

Yeh price is definitely competitive but too bad the only good component there is the CPU, rest is some chinese noname brands :/. I wouldnt buy it even if I was really short on budget.

And if your mum just wants it for basic stuff, add 50-100quid on top and buy her some cheap laptop, it will do better job imo.

Nah, its only for browsing net and sending emails, just the one we've got now is nackerd, pointless buying a laptop really as my mum and dad prefer a full size keyboard, proper mouse and a huge screen. Doesnt really matter if the components are 'no name chinese brands', its quite obvious i'm not out to buy premium brands and so they will do the job fine.
It will do fine for an internet PC for my mum and dad, its perfect for a short budget.

mine however will be used for gaming (older games)

i want the best possible spec possible for gaming.

you wont be doing much overclocking/gaming

if you want to save yourself hassle buy the above system

You could build a better system yourself using parts from the Member Market... decent brands too. :)

However out of the two rigs in this thread i'd go for the AMD with quality ocmponents over the E2160 with nasty components.

Have you thought about a basic Dell basestation for greater peace of mind?

Yeah, and the CPU in the original sec wont be getting very far on the overclocking fron given the components it'll be teamed up with.
I'd rather have the AMD @ 2.5 than the C2D @ 1.8.
