Full system lockup

Hey all, I am looking for some advice. I recently changed my RAM, and CPU upgraded from 4x 16GB DDR5 5200mts Corsair Dominators to Kingston Fury 5600mts 2x 32GB (as I could not get XMP to work on the others). These were running fine with my 13700k the other night playing PUBG for quite a few hours. Today, I upgraded to a 14900kf and first game, towards the end I had a full system lock up. Screen stayed on and froze, but keyboard RGBs turned off and fans on system went to default. I could not reset using the switch on the PC and had to hold power down for a couple of seconds. I have no idea what caused it or how to see if there is something up with the new CPU. Doing a CPU-Z stress test and max temp over 30 mins has been 93c (which I assume is fine - AIO).

Concious this could have been a one off or PUBG (but it was ok the other night). Worried I have ended up with a dud CPU.

Any troubleshooting or testing advice would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies for the poor quality but this was stats before I turned off the system:

I could be wrong but have been getting the same crashes in Chiv 2 had one last night keyboard lights will all go out ect

on the few occasions windows will not totally freeze and the game will crash to desktop eventually with a Unreal engine crash report ( they both use UE4)

sadly yet to get to he bottom of it all was thinking a fresh windows build might be my next step
Interesting, see I am wondering if it was a PUBG thing. Freaky that it happened, as I haven't had that one before and a bit paranoid with new hardware in the rig. One thing I noticed recently with PUBG and my 13700k was stutters on games which I played on Wednesday, assuming the update broke something as I have not had them before.

I could potentially do a new windows install, no harm I guess :).

I am have run two tests on cinebench, first was throttling and have now finished the 30 min stability test. No issues, temps went upto 92c max. @Nitefly - do you need any stats?

What is the history of the CPU that you have? Was it a retail boxed CPU?

I assume you have updated the BIOS and are running Intel's patched microcode?

There's no need to panic yet, but if you got this CPU second hand I would definitely investigate for the known issues as you'd want to get it returned ASAP if you have got a degraded one. If it was a retail boxed CPU from a legit seller then there's no big because the extended warranty is 5 year.
I have a warranty situation with the CPU (dunno if I can mention where). Second hand, so no idea on history. I have 14 days to return without fuss and other than that a 5 year warranty (replace or current value).

I have the updated BIOS (F29 Aorus Pro z690):-
  1. Checksum : 6D35
  2. Introduce the "Intel Default Settings" and enabled as default
  3. Introduce microcode 0x12B as the final mitigation of 13/14th Gen desktop processor Vmin Shift Instability issue according to Intel official
    i. 0x12B encompasses 0x125 and 0x129 microcode updates, and addresses elevated voltage requests by the processor during idle and/or light activity periods.
ii. microcode 0x129 (August 2024) addresses high voltages requested by the processor.
iii. microcode 0x125 (June 2024) addresses eTVB algorithm issue.
What other ways could I test the CPU?

Nah all good - cinebench just killed my CPU when I had an ambitious undervolt, could have revealed a CPU instability. Which suggests it might be your ram.

But, it’s a bit weird for an issue to only come up after a few hours. Could have been a random one off.

Run an overnight ram test, but beyond that don’t stress it and only speed lots of time investigating if it happens again.
I can look at a RAM test. Any recommendations on that one? :)

Had another hard full system crash whilst playing Sniper Elite 5, happened fairly quickly into a coop play session. Starting to suspect that it is definitely the CPU now :(.
