Hi all

I am looking to get a fully electric company car. I currently have a plug in hybrid and a fuel card where I repay private mileage.

Despite the fact that the electric car will be is lease hired with no depreciation and the car will be charged at home, would I still have to pay for the private mileage used as there is no cost to the company.

Thank you

Seems like a question for whoever looks after your company car scheme at work.

They may operate the expenses so that you pay everything and they repay you business miles.

Or they might be operating an EV charge card solution instead of a fuel card, that sorts out payments behind the scenes for public charging, home charging etc. and things would operate much as they do for you now by the sound of it.

As above I just get the business rate and pay all else myself, albeit the need for me to use the car for business travel is near zero.

If you did need to use the car for business travel under this arrangement and had to charge away from home it won't come close to covering the initial cost (although tax relief might of claimable at the end of the financial year) of public charging. Would be fine for home charging though

It may do given the first ~200 miles of every business journey you take could be at sub 2p/mile, car dependent of course.

The HMRC rate reflects a more realistic average rate for charging, I expect most company car drivers are still ‘making money’ even with public charging sprinkled in.

Ask your HR department.

I presume the reimburse you for charging your PHEV at home already?

my wife has the mercedes CLA 250E as her company car and charges at home every night, she's done 25k miles with 2/3rds on electric, being able to claim back 13-14p or so per mile. made a ton since she moved from her old petrol Seat Leon.
