Hi,

I've finally had a bit of time to play a few of the driving games I have I'm now bored of them due to what I think is poor design. Perhaps I'm just not very good at them but I only get to game a dozen or so hours a month so I don't get to learn every inch of every track I'm so looking for something I can pick up and play for fun without having to learn tracks etc in huge detail.

Currently have

Dirt.
The rallying and racing bit is fine as long as there is no AI on the track. Anything involving the AI is poor, AI cars just run you off the road constantly into any number of the fixed objects, pretty much ending the race there and then. A slight tap or so from behing and your a passenger off a cliff. It turns the game into a lottery unless you play it on the lowest difficulty so you can get a decent lead. And why did they spoil it with so many bouncy unstable cars.... surely a couple of 'special events' would be enough. I'm now about half way through the 5th Tier but I can't take any more.....

NFS Undercover.
Actually enjoyed this for the first few hours but then it starts to get annoying when racing as you need to know all the shortcuts and turn offs which appear with little warning and aren't clear on the map so you end up repeating some of the major races half a dozen times so you know where the track goes.

Forza 2
Very steep learning curve as you have to know the tracks far too well.

What else is there that's pick up and play entertainment?

Cheers

Midnight club: LA is pretty good, it's pretty much like NFS: most wanted, only with motorbikes and it's a bit more realistic. When I say bit, I mean almost not at all.

I like the pgr series, it feels more like bumper cars to me driving into a wall at 100+mph and coming out unscathed :D.

Grids great fun, but as Deleted member 2277 said, the two burnout games are the most fun racers on the console, its worth getting both, as they offer a different experience.

IMO Burnout Paradise isn't that great for racing - you have to know where to go and looking at the map can just get annoying, not great if you don't know where to go for the stunt challenges either, but it's good fun cruising around. Burnout Revenge is good fun all round though.
For racing PGR4 is good and Grid is just great!

Yeah the burnout games are awesome. If your looking for a good xbox 360 racing game, look into Baja: Edge of Control for 360. You can race for hours on one track so it will give the most fun out of your time, its something new. Yeah but Burnout is really good

seconded, another is test drive unlimited, although ive tryed to get into it a few times because some mates are always playing it but i found it an utter crap game

TDU is very annoying to start with as you can only afford a naff car. I found after a few hours of racing I could afford a B class car, like the ford GT or one of the ferarri's which are both pretty quick and make the game much more interesting!

That said, probably not the sort of game for the OP though.

Deffinitly Burnout Revenge and the PGR's, I loved the demo of pure and if your a fan of SSX aswell as racers you'll really enjoy it. Baja is good fun and very challangeing from what I've played of it so far.

Hi,

Thanks! ... it looks like PGR4 and possably GRID at this point. I found some review over at IGN that also go with those two so hopefully there will be a gem in there.

I had a look at the burnout's but seem similar to NFS except you go through other cars. Pure ... looks nice and I bet would be great fun with a few mates though I think two games will last.

I did put up with a little more dirt, only 9 races left to complete the career mode ... and those silly buggies don't get any better though I'm only playing at clubman. The rallies I could probably get away with a level or so higher but anything on bumps I can just about scrape a win.

Does anyone play with the MSwheel or another sort. I've got a PS2 wheel, logitech which I really like... just a shame it's gathering dust. Being a 'Lite' gamer I'm just using the pad but I've seen mixed reviews. Some say great.. others say it's poor.

Cheers

I heard PGR3 is better than PGR4 (only played the 3rd), though they are both good - GRID is brilliant fun though...

ps3ud0

Well after a quick trip to town and a look at retail prices :( I've justed ordered PGR 4 online.... might have a look on live to see if there is a demo in the mean while. Was going to get Grid as well but it's not in stock so will hold up my order.

Just down the the british post and of course a bank holiday... but you never do know!
