I'm under orders to spec a laptop for my girlfriend's mum as a secret birthday pressie.. I don't really have time to do the legwork atm so do any of you have or know of the best combination of performance/price/fun/colour at the low-mid range?

My brief is 'cheap fun ones (e.g. dell colour top etc)'. The other half might want something Fun, but I want something that won't require constant ongoing IT support!

Cheers :)

Looked for something similar for my sister a few months ago and we decided on a Sony. Them, alongside Dell appear to be the only ones that do colourful laptops. :)

Acer Ferrari :)

Asus are pretty good. The UL30A is a nice entry laptop, but 'fun', maybe not!

You also have the Asus EeePC seashell netbooks, very good (pretty much the standard in their category), but they are netbooks (lacks power, but good for normal usage, and great battery life).
