It might be ancient, but it was new to me anyway. A chap brought his lappy into work and said it was "locked". I figured he'd forgotten his password, but he booted into windows and after a few seconds a fullscreen window presents itself like this

The guy was petrified thinking he'd somehow gotten a load of kiddie pron and "zoophilia" on his pc, but I had to laugh. Because obviously if you DID do all that, the police are really going to let you off by locking your pc until you pay them £100. LOL!!!!!!!! I can see the headlines now: "Police crack down on paedophile rings by locking pcs and fining offenders £100 to re-access their illegal material".

Quick run of mbam and it was sorted. Thought I'd share for lols, apologies if it's old news to you :)

I often wonder what people are up to when they get these infections... I see my share of riddled laptops and PCs and a couple with something similar to that

... and accept the money solely through dubious online payment services.

I can't believe that people fall for these scams. They only keep going because there's truly one born every minute.

Yep, well I'm off to the shop to buy these untraceable cash tokens. Gotta get these police off my back :p Odd that they don't accept debit card, but never mind!

Although, saying that, the poor sod had to pay me £40 to have me run a free program on his computer to fix it. Crooks on both sides!

The fun thing about this one is it uses your IP address to pick the right local police to list. My brother had this a while back, he said he thought it came from a porn site, so I'm guessing it is likely from one of the ad servers. I tried to get him to use Noscript but he didn't understand how to use it so just white listed everything.

haha I had indian scammers ring my mother the other day... if only she passed it onto me into my VM though.

The fun I could have had! :D

One of my clients called me about this AFTER paying £100 to a local pay point... I managed not to laugh at him and went out and removed it. Cost him £135 that day... silly billy.
