Funcom CEO flogging his shares

AoC was fun while it lasted, first 45 lvls, playing was fun then almost no quests untill lvl 80, most of my gameplay was a grind grind grind. The instances i did were so unballanced, sometimes we had a good group but we would wipe on bosses, it was like we would never ever kill it and some trash would respown after 5 min.

I like the way you fight, monters, quests, it was all nice, but there every one looked just the same, no nice shiny weapons etc.

Its true they didnt want to make it WoW clone where gear is everything, but stats on some of the items looked just ridiculis. I had very few items 30-40 levels below me, that was just instane.

I will never go back to AoC, this game was a total distaster at the end, even though i quite enjoyed some parts of it.

WoW has thousands of bots on it, frankly I don't want to play it. If they sorted it out (which I know they haven't ) I'd happily play it though.

I'm more interested in Warhammer at the moment though, Age of Conan was simply too awful a concept after a few months playing. Started badly, got steadily worse. Some great ideas, sadly they didn't work well together for me, perhaps if they tweak it a heck of a lot!

I am kind of glad, they released an unfinished game, serves them right, they need to learn that with MMOs they need to actually make a good game as they have to keep the subscriptions up month after month as opposed to no demo/open beta and loads of hype to get a few sales.

I've never played it to be honest, but did buy into the hype a little bit, I went out and bought the book 'The Complete Chronicales of Conan' It's a fanatastic book and really made me want to play it...However my PC is just at minimum specc so I held off until I get a better one.

If all the nay sayers are true then I'm a little gutted, It's such a great universe in which to base an mmo that it'll be a crying shame if it is as bad as everyone makes out.

It's not bad, It just really lacks end-game atm. I can't see it recovering unless they start implementing features that should have been ready at launch and start rolling out lvl 80 zones/dungeons. At present they are focussing too much on the mid level content.

For me AoC has been an entertaining diversion from playing EvE for over 4 years however there are fundementals that it has got wrong with excessive numbers of items, ridiculous item stats for high level items (ie: a level 64 item that gives you just 0.1% Crushing Damage or somesuch useless item).

For me though, I can't see me ever going to WoW and unfortunately I can't see me going to Warhammer. For one reason really....it all looks way too cartoony. The graphics are all glitzy and shiney. Watching the Warhammer Cinematic trailer filled me with excitement at its dark, brooding undertones, only to have it dashed when I watched the gameplay trailer. It looks like a friggin' cartoon to cater for the masses who want shiney graphics and pink swords. That is what AoC delivered that the rest of the genre fail to deliver. Sure there is a bit of flashy light effects but the underlying game feels a lot darker and menacing. Warhammer could have been awesome but the Cinematic trailer is all it has to offer me. I'll stick at AoC a little while longer and see what comes of it, failing that I will continue with EvE and give the fantasy genre a miss.

Indeed, it’s certainly not as bad as some people make out and it does have some positives. The graphics and music just create such a great atmosphere, some of the landscapes are just stunning and as you ride through them with the music in the background its amazing, some of the best music I’ve ever heard in a game. There are other good points and it’s just a shame they fell short in so many areas, I just fear it’s too late for them to put everything right.

I dunno, I think it's just the low detail settings that the beta was stuck on that have it looking cartooney. This looks pretty true to Warhammer if you ask me :

Something that instantly kills AoC dead for me is the itemization - a max level character looks like a level two. You need your Lightning Swords and the like to make the game worth playing.

My guild was the biggest on Wildsoul, we had an allience with 3 other guilds at one point with a total of around 500-600 players, 90% of those players have quit and left the game.

The game had no end game content what so ever.

Funny how the servers are still packed. I am always quietly chuckling to myself over these "AOC is going to die" threads.

Carry on.

Are you Erling Ellingsen in disguise?

Seriously? Which server are you on because I want to see this. None of the servers are busy. The fact that its muliple instanced as well means you won't see everyone at once. 5 people in chat doesn't constitute busy.

AoC will die due to a few reasons. Basically (and the reason I think it was released before it was ready) pretty much the big MMO's are being released now. That's WAR / LOTRO Addon / WOW Addon. Why play a bugged game which crashes all the time with no end game content, community that is lacking any input by the people in charge (except moderation to tell the people stop criticising the game).

Sorry but that made me laugh. He's getting out why he can due to the crap that was AO and AoC.

AOC is one of the big MMO's now.

I haven't had a crash since the first 1 - 2 weeks of release. Most crashes are now down to user errors (running 4gb of ram in Vista32 etc..).

with no end game content

You got to end game did you? There is a lot of end game content and they are about to introduce an entire new land mass/area. Many raids, battle sieges, attacking other guild cities....

community that is lacking any input by the people in charge (except moderation to tell the people stop criticising the game).

This is one of the very few MMO's where the devs are listening to the players. The introduction of the PvP content people have been crying out for and they have listened. Many tweaks I have seen have been directly because of loud requests on their forums.

Anarchy Online was anything but crap for its day. It is one of the big old MMOs that is still around.

Maybe he does know something we don't but don't kid yourself that its because there are a couple of bugs in AoC and people are leaving it... because they aren't.

I play on Fury, the server is always crowded. There are usually 80 people online in the guild I belong too. The major city hubs are packed, the different areas are always populated.

The fact that it has become "cool" on this section of the forum to slate certain games gives this place a primary school playground mentality which is rather pathetic. Look at the latest round of people who consider themselves "cool" for slating Spore.

i'm waiting for the Warhammer fan boys to unload there man juice and say that WoW will fold because Warhammer online will take all wow's subs and Aoc subs and basically everyone in the world on the net will start playing the best game in the universe.

Side note, not played AoC like most mmo's they need time, i might get it if it's on offer in GAME next time im in.
I'm happy with WoW in fairness.

You can't be serious when you say devs are listening to its players:confused:
they changed stuff nobody wanted while completely avoiding the things that needed doing.
So they are now listening to players who want the pvp stuff implemented, it should have been in from the start not 3 months later.
