I haven't used my camera now for some time and noticed fungus growing on the inside of the lens about the size of 5 pence piece. I wanted to get people's view if it is possible to clean it and worth it as i understand the fungus can often damage the lense. The lense is 100mm F2.8 macro Canon.

It can damage the internal coating on the lens elements and so could you if you open it up to clean it so best of handing over to an authorised service centre or local camera specialist. A basic service of a lens isn't going to cost the earth either and you'll get it back in nice shiny new condition.

One trick to try is to stand it in the window of your home on a sunny day.
Most times the sun will kill off the fungus to a small level.
It will not completely kill off all the fungus, however will certainly reduce it.
