Im running 1440P on a 6770 512 or 1gb card i cant remember to be honest. :L (waiting for my 680 to arive) but it's got me thinking

all the time people are like ooooh 1440P NOOO you must have quad sli 4gb 680s to get 30fpsss ohhh

I always knew it was no were near as bad as people speculated about it.

but here are some average fps's matched with game settings in 1440p

bf3 medium preset - 30-40fps

arma 2 (dayz) 1440p normal AND 3d res,AA,shadows and post process OFF
the rest are set on normal - depending on location 20-50fps (but its dayz leave it alone xD)

borderlands 2 ambient occlusion and depth of field off, anistropic filter x4 bullet decals normal, foliage distance near, texture and game quality medium, view distance high, physx effects low, fxaa off 30-40fps

skyrim un modded high res textures on AA 2, AF16 texture quality high, radial blur high, shadow ultra, decal , ultra fxaa on, water reflect everything, view distance all bars are around 25-30% the way up 20-35fps

i know this isn't very detailed if anyone wants more details or anyother games adding to the list? then i will try it out

im not saying go buy a 6770 and a 1440p monitor and it will run them in uber settings at 30-50fps not at all, but people who laugh and say it cant run games at all, it can get what i would consider fair frame rates and med ish graphics contrary to popular belief

Well it's that people want to / 'need to' play games at full AA, full shadow details etc etc if you did that with the 6670, yeah it wouldn't play in much above double figures FPS.

But granted, lower the settings and a mid-low card can play games at 1440p, which is good/shows how little games have progressed due to console noobery :D

Yeah im not innocent myself i ordered a 680 to make them look better, but i do think that people over hype what you NEED to run games on 1440p

I think people who use a 1440p monitor like to play games at a quality level that makes best use of that resolution :P if your gonna drop settings to medium or even low then your (in general not you specifically) probably wasting your time playing at that resolution.

I know what you mean, harry. I had a 5850 CF setup on my main desktop, and for my media centre pc I got a 5670, expecting it to barely be able to play games. I was surprised how well it managed most games at 1080p, even Crysis was playable (not at top settings of course, but not at low either).

I don't think anyone says you need a powerful card to run 2560*1440. But you do need a powerful card to have a good combination of image quality and FPS.

It depends on the game

I played the latest XCOM all the way though on 1 GPU @1600p and it looked fine with everything maxed. When I did change to the latest drivers and got all 4 GPUs running it did not look any different.

Having said that with some games like FC3 you need all the graphics power you can get.
