Got a Xsara VTS and something funny is going on with the alarm. It randomly goes off, really beginning to p me off now. The funny thing is its not like the usual alarm kicking in, I don’t get any lights flashing just the siren. It can go on for a few seconds, turn off then back on 10 minutes later. I can’t figure it out since if it was the proper alarm going off all the lights should go mental too...

Any ideas? the Xsara forums suggest faulty sensors, but this is with the lights going off, this seems just the siren...

Would it be worthwhile getting a decent alarm in there and ripping the old one out? Costly?

Cheers

Cheers for the reply guys. Well I'm sure the alarm has it own power supply? Starts up pretty quickly, a few turns starter and its starts. Might get the battery tested out...

Well I was planning to do that but the flashy light dont go on does it? Does the imobiliser still kick in when this is done? I might just unplug the siren. Apparently it is on the nearside behind the front grill.
So you changed the main car battery and it seemed to have cured it? hmmm might be an expensive cure which might not even work! :o
Will take it into a car security place and wait to get ripped off...

if its anything like the 306 alarm the siren is buggered, water gets in (due to its stupid location) and screws it up (its located under passenger wing). PSA in all there knowledge also use an excellent nicad backup system on it, which means after about 4 years the battery is screwed and so is your siren..........
again if it is anything like the 306 you will have a switch or key by/behind the passenger headlight.
this will isolate the siren

Yeah I am using that right now, but if the siren is buggered then might as well get another in there. Come to think of it it was raining yesterday when it kept going off, been in the garage and has been as good as gold.
