Funny mmorpg stories

I got my first player bounty in SWG and it was a friend of mine

Needless to say I ran off, he still doesn't know that it was me that was hunting him :D

I know a couple who met, moved in together & married after playing DAoC together, they were a right pair of geeks, but geek love can be kinda cute :)

I was happily running through Nanto when suddenly I was several miles in the air, falling.
My friend was playing next to me, and also standing near where my character had disappeared from. He turned to look at my screen:

"How the hell did you do that?! You just disappea-.... dude, you're falling..."

When I splatted onto the ground right next to where his character stood, we both just wet ourselves.

A cookie to anyone who identifies the game :p

Asheron's Call.

Awesome game, and yes far more rich and dynamic than anything like WOW has to offer really in terms of interactivity. Dropping items on the floor for example... should be a given if you ask me. BRING BACK AC!!! :(

cookie!

Logging in at my guilds mansion just as somebody was logging off, muling some GSA.
Picking up the GSA and hiding behind a rock, then playing "Catch me if you can!" with the angriest, rudest, whiniest person ever... Priceless :D
I tried to get back into AC after years of AC2, Eve and WoW... it just never could be that wonderful groundbreaker again :(

Approaching a can dropped by a rat in EVE in my brand new Vexor (those were the days  ) and all of a sudden i was flying in the opposite direction at 2 million AU/s with the sun a tiny spot in the distance

I ended up about 13 million AUs away from the sun by the time i'd slowed to a couple of hundred thousand AU/s. It would have taken about 7 weeks to get back at normal warp speed from this distance :o

Luckily I was back where I started when I relogged.

problem is the worlds are dead. check the ac forums it's really sad listening to the remaining guilds try to get people on servers that peak with a few hundred players.

everyone i know that played AC and now plays WOW says the same thing. they miss it. maybe it's cuz it's your first MMO but i think it's a lot more than that.

It's probably the first MMO thing. I know I thought maybe EQ1 had a certain magic, went back to it when the progression servers were launched and realised that nah it was nostalgia :/
Still love the memories though :)

Also, something funny happened to me in PlanetSide:

We (New Conglomerate) had just fought off an invasion of Cyssor by the TR, and most of the NC forces were moving onto the next continent in persuit of them, but there were still a few straggling TR with an AMS* near one of our bases in the middle of the continent.

They'd managed to get the AMS right up on top of Mount Cyssor, higher than aircraft could fly, so my squad had to treck up the mountain to get there. When I died, I decided to go back to the sanctuary and HART* in, as it would be quicker. I HARTed in and my pod landed on top of their AMS, damaging it and uncloaking it for everyone to see :D

* HART is High Altitude Rapid Transport (i.e. orbital drop), and AMS is a cloaking mobile respawn vehicle for all you non PlanetSide players :p

no! AC was more powerful than the Matrix!!

once. :(

Asherons Call 2 was awesome, probably preferred it to WoW in all honesty

And my amusing story

I used to play Legend of Mir 2, and a TV Channel called game network used to own it, so needless to say they had a show that covered it

I used to be on it like every other show as I was quite high level and in a strong guild. I used to brag how I was on telly all the time, then people would ask to see so I'd show them

"So your not actually on telly? Just your game character?"

Is funny looking back on it now

That's just it though. I think because MMOs are so reliant on the people (and the amount of them) that play it. Once it loses its stance quite high up on the popularity scale, it just doesn't become the game it once was. :( All to do with the timing of when you first play it I guess.

i know, you're right. i just have this ridiculous little hope that some day turbine will go 'well, ok you guys have the server software for free and just... start it all over again, roll the data back.'

hell even if they did nobody would join in. because of the pure evil-ness of WOW that hypnotises us all into thinking it's the best game in the universe.

it's not! AC is more powerfull.

(it was once :( )

I used to feel the same about EQ1 so I know the feeling. :/
I still quite like WoW but it's not the same feeling.

Today is hardware upgrade for EVE, I had a logical plan to stay up until then doing small, quick skills.

Unfortunately at 7:30 this morning I loose the ability to login, and visit several websites. So, I did a virus scan, ran a SSAD search, did a system restore only to find the problem remaining.

So, to sum it up, the skill I had going finished at about 8:00, leaving me with the minimum of 26 hours with no skill going. Before climbing into bed, I managed to put a whole in my ceiling. :p
