After installing quake 3 on my old and current install of windows xp pro, my machine doesn't reboot at all.

Windows shuts down and then just stops permanently and will not reboot. I am not able to restart my machine for love nor money.

My motherboard is an asus a78nx-e deluxe.

Are there e.g. any patches that need to be installed?

The problem only arises after I install q3, and doesn't subside if I uninstall the game.

The only thing that has worked for me is to use the system restore function, but then I get no game! arg :anger:

What do you mean it won't reboot? Your description is vague I think. If it doesn't reboot, how did you manage to use system restore?

ok,

dirtydog - I used the system restore by letting windows close down, and then waiting for about ten minutes, and then pressing the reset button on the case. This was the only way that the machine would allow windows to restart

Borris - It doesn't post, but is still powered up and nothing beeps.

So what you actually mean is, Windows tries to shut down but hangs, so you need to do a hard reset :)

I'm not sure what your reply to Borris means, because if you can hard reset it successfully and get back into Windows to do a System Restore, then surely it must have POSTed during that process.

Are you running SP2 and do you have all the latest Windows patches installed.
