Furred Battery Terminal

One of the terminals on my battery has gone white? I'm not sure what it's a build up of, I think the battery is calcium based? Any ideas why this might of happened?

Is it not white and green? Normally it indicates that the battery is getting on in age.
I've also try and remove the crystals as the can be corrosive to the metal work, then grease the terminals up to give them some added protection and reduce it happening any further.

It happens, pour boiling water over it then grease it.

Just wipe it and apply vaseline.

Boiling water is an age old and well tried method of removing corrosion from battery posts.

Oh right :S Id have some concerns over these none sealed batteries. I guess you take it out the car first aswell.`
