Fussy card reader

Lexar Pro CF card reader has suddenly become fussy which USB port it's plugged in to. Only works from always-on powered port on laptop.

It won't work from any other port including powered USB hub. It worked fine from these ports a few days ago.

Any ideas as to why?

More likely to be a problem with windows than the card reader. I have a laptop here at work, and a USB mouse will only work when you plug it into the same USB port that it last worked on. Plug in a different maker/model of mouse into another port and it works fine after installing the drivers, plug it into another port (the one the other mouse was working on), and no joy. If you leave it long enough it will eventually detect the new device and install the driver again.

This has only been a problem since it was upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7.

I've not had the enthusiasm to investigate further.

Thanks. I had unplugged everything the previous day whilst tidying up so sounds like the same problem.

find out what chip that reader uses and go to the manufacturer of it. Had to do that for a Dell laptop last year - the detected/website drivers were not complete

Removed it from Device Manager, plugged it in and can now play musical USB ports with much joy and gladness ;-)
