There is a very distinct smell in our loft, its quite fusty, and the loft itself is definitely on the damp side (anything paper or cardboard goes quite soft when left up there)
but it doesn't feel really damp when you get up there.
there is no obvious condensation, and as far as I can tell, no mold or leaks in the roof.
The loft hatch is an insulated/sealed one that I installed a couple of years ago.
I topped up the insulation from 100mm, with an extra 200mm taking it to 300mm a couple of years ago, I did make sure to leave enough space at the eaves to leave airflow, and when I open the loft hatch I can feel air coming in.
there are 2 bathroom extractors vented through the loft, both go to a soffit vent and the pipework is in place with no leaks as far as I can tell.
I could put a dehumidifier up there, but as the loft has outside air flowing in I think that will be of minimal use.
any suggestions ?
