Future cpu socket?

The manufacturer of the mobo can make a riser card that slots into it with a new socket on it meaning you do not have to buy a new mobo to use a new socket.

Is it the Asrock 939 dual board?
It also adds new ram slots to support DDR2.

Wow, it's huge and will prolly cost a lot which kinda defeats the purpose and you might as well buy a new mobo

Socket AM2 processors are 100% compatible with existing NF4 chipsets, so no a new chipset wouldn't be needed. AM2 processors are not inherently different to their s939 and s940 counterparts, just they bring around DDR2 control for the AMD platform.

However, i'd rather have a dedicated board rather than a bodged expansion, as that plug-in riser board is going to increase memory transfer latencies by a **** load!
