Hello All,

I am trying to advise a friend on a pc he wishes to buy. Budget would be £700 but I think I could push him to £750 if the right pc was availalble so lets call it £750 lol!

He needs full system except GPU(will use onboard graphics for now), keyboard, mouse and monitor.

The pc will be used for general tasks nothing special but he wants the pc to be able to be improved (if needed) for

1) music production and mixing
2) gaming

In that priority. This is my first stab at it. Yes it is a little over budget so I will maybe need to reduce a bit or convince otherwise.

Please feel free to criticise, advise and change this as you see fit. I would really appreciate some input on this build and thanks in advance.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £779.63

I would change the psu, far better with 7 year warranty also does he need such a big case ? There are plenty of cases that would save him money.

Thanks for the input here! I will have a look into this power supply. Im probably best going for something quiet due to the music production side. Lol, fair point. I went with a big case becuase it will be easy to work in, gives plenty room for future and dont bigger cases run a bit cooler (I might just have made this up), what do you think?

Yes pretty good bundle but I think Im going to stick to ASUS for the motherboard. I wouldnt put windows 8 near a pc (although I know windows 10 is a free upgrade but I have no experience of this). Will certainly consider this though! Thank you.

Having plaenty of space is all ways an advantage in a case and as long as you got good air flow then will run cool.

Maybe a half decent cpu cooler will help especially with noise, you can also get noise dampened cases.

A quality psu will allow you to add a high end gpu at a later date with no worries.

i went with a reasonable priced board, i tried for 16gb ram as i hear thats good for production, but without skimping somewhere it wouldve come in at over £780 with shipping included.

as for windows, i figured for the price keep up to date, but i was like you, until i got my 8.1 system i only ever wanted windows 7 as missus has 8.1 on laptop and didnt like it, but now i very much like it... cant be said for 10 though, had a win 7 laptop and as soon as 10 was available i got it overnight so no issues, but i didnt like it and went back to 7, but on a desktop as i sold laptop in the end..
