PC gaming and console gaming will eventually merge, consoles will become gaming PCs and will allow for hardware upgrade a special/slim gaming OS and online browser for games. Then there will still be the normal PC that people will use for internet and work.

Thats a bit of an biased list. I would add:

Split Screen Gaming

Tbh i wouldnt count that as a plus, i hate split screen gaming.

Goldeneye on the N64 for example, if you wanted to know where your mate was you just look at his screen.

Except everything you have just mentioned.

Im trying to think of somehting I do on Windows that I cannot also do under Linux, and Im finding it very hard to come up with anything?

Ok, I like DVD Santa ( Win ) and I have not go it for Linux, thats true, but I have other options.
I like gaming and Im actually ok there because the games I like, do in fact run under Linux just fine, with the exception of the Need For Speed Series.

Apart from that, I dont know?

NAme somethign that Windows does, that Linux cannot... Dont go naming Programs, cos thats just thick... Name jobs that Linux cant do that Windows does.

ok the 2 most used things on my pc at the mo and in future months

Supreme commander and Vanguard .. do these run on linux ?
And im pretty sure 90% of my apps wont run on linux, cant be ass'd to list as Already given this thread more time than it deserves :)

preach linux to some 1 else :)

Pc game sales for 2006 at a record breaking high, WOW = 8million people a month paying $15 to play a PC Game

xbox360 has shifted 11 million units hardly proves your point. Oh but forgot wow is the greatest game on earth, until you realise one day its in fact the worse.

I never understand this graphics look better on pc either, being more inclined to play PC myself i still think consoles generally look and feel better.

If consoles are going to take hold more and more, then the PC as a gaming platform is going to die ... Quite radiply I recon.

One thing I would say is that the PC is becoming more and more mainstream (as a general household entity, not just for gaming) which means that more and more people can be potentially exposed to PC gaming. It's not just geeks who have a 3d accelerator card and low latency internet anymore.

As regards the whole 'PC gaming is gonna die" debate, pretty much everything that can be said, has been said already. But one little bit extra I can add is that the deciding factor will not just be how easy it is to setup and play a game, nor will it be down to how much a PC costs to buy/build/upgrade.

What it will come down to is, as long as developers keep making PC games, that it will not die as a platform. So looking at the whole Vista/DX10 thing, if that makes it easier for Devs to develop games, then it could be a good thing for PC gamers even if the actual technology itself doesn't give us better gfx, faster framerates etc.

I think he is trying to get the point across that just one PC game has over 8 million people subscribing to it, if you think about how many people are playing other MMORPGS like EVE or SWG or the 100's of others it shows just how popular PC gaming still is.

=

That's one game, not the the machinery used to play it on. Also remember every xbox ps3 sold is losing money and uis made up by selling the games..

Split Screen Gaming

True, most Console games do have this. Some PC games do too. and I myself find it utterly useless.

And a PC cant do that?

No messing about getting games to run

Ok, perhaps this is among the most ridiculous things I have seen in a long time, and I wont waste time going into why.

Console

Games
Demo's
Add-ons
mp3's/videos
Browsing (Limited)
Beta's, such as the PSU one on marketplace atm
Game cost £50
-----------------------------

Just thought id add some bits you missed from your list, the pc section was pretty much right :P

Convergence is where its at, consoles are becoming more and more like branded, gaming PCs, obviously with much less flexibility atm, but with the PS3 being fully linux compatible, who knows??

Oh and dont get me wrong, I'm an avid pc gamer.

I dont think that saying the PS3 is fully linux compatible is a good point to make.

Its more correct to say that Linux has been ported to it.

This does not really say all that much really because Linux has been ported to many many things including digital watches, Mobiles and PDAs

And with browsing... You dont even need a console these days for that.

My mum some years ago got internet TV... What a pile of doggie doos

Not much better than WAP and thats is one of the most useless things I have ever had the misfortune to try out.

IF you want cutting edge gfx its pc all the way, i don't understand these constant threads about pc gaming die, it happens with every new console and it never happens.

2007 will be a huge year for pc gaming with dx10 no next gen console has that, i went the 360 route but after a few months i got totaly bored of it, games not as good as the hype that came with them.

Please do. Are you telling me you have never had to mess about with different settings/drivers or simply that doing so is not a negative aspect of pc gaming?
