I hope this isn't a silly question or something that's been done to death;
I know little of the history of Pcs but I have seen a few trends, for instance the integration of GPU and CPU in amd's fusion chips and also the integration of motherboards and high end graphics (the concept of a 5770 as built in graphics) and see the market for different components shrinking.
On the other had this market is also growing; more graphics cards in one machine, sound cards, ssds etc..

So I was wondering what your opinions on whether there are going to be more and more components that you can add to your computer (more customised) or whether we are seeing components becoming merged.

Hope that made sense.. :) xx

Merged I believe.

AS you pointed out there is a gpu cpu fusion going on.
Also, Asus have managed to build a 5770 into a motherboard (as you also mentioned).

cool hadn't heard about that integrated 5770. quite like that idea, finally decent integrated gpus, which will hopefully bring prices down, and will be good for laptops which will help the pc gaming market.
