future proofing

i know no matter what i do its practically impossible to be completely future proofed but here we go
i want a quad core pc that will play any game currently available and any game out in the near future at an adequate FPS
the i7 is basically amazing but expensive so i wanna ask about the AM3 socket. i am completely an AMD noob so can someone tell me if its worth getting a AMD AM3 build and if AMD are releasing a new range as they havent done for some time now

I'd go i7 if it were me. Future proofing doesn't always work (its gone wrong with me in the past, because of socket changes, revisions etc). So i'd just buy the best you can now with what you've budgeted and for me it would be an i7 920 skt1366 setup. We know theres a 6 core cpu out (westmere 32nm) on this platform so it has upgradability, but even if you don't upgrade to it, it will still be a great system. AM3 is good, but it will always be lagging behind intels i7 when you start comparing them both.

Go for the AM3 setup, great performance, future upgradability and less money than i7, you cant lose

amd is great if you are on a budget, but they are fail overclockers in comparison with 4-4.5GHz i7 clocks

I reckon you would be better off with the AM3 and the 5870. In pure gaming terms there won't be much in it and the better graphics card will compensate.
