Built this monday a new rig..

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz

Avexir MPower Red Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel

Asus GeForce GTX 680 Direct CU II V2 2048MB

Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI GENE Intel Z87

Now, ive no idea how to overclock.. at all.

Would future ideas be good to say boost the ram to 16GB?

and maybe a future SLI setup? i'd like to push the processor further it gets to 55'c full load in games

There are loads of guides on overclocking Haswell around. A small one isn't very difficult but if you are on the stock cooler you won't be able to do it really, as they get extremely hot quickly.

You won't need 16gb RAM for gaming.

its on an h100 doesnt go over 56'c full load

"rig" :(

As for RAM, what is your current RAM usage? Do you feel you'll get benefit from going to 16GB?

Personally, I wouldn't go below 16GB myself, but my computer habits are a lot more RAM intensive than most people's.

I'd also test the CPU with something that loads the CPU up fully that isn't a game.

Some sort of CPU benchmark that loads up all the cores.

What resolution are you running games at? SLi 680s isn't the best choice because 680s are already being limited by their memory bandwidth, so another down the line would make less sense than just a totally new graphics card with more VRAM and more memory bandwidth.

Prime 95 ive been using.... 1920x1080 is the resolution i use..

Ah good so you've been loading it up properly then.

680s are already bottlenecking some games at 1920x1080 as it is, due to memory bandwidth and RAM amount (more so memory bandwidth) and it's only going to get worse with newer games.

The 680 is a good card, to get something noticeably better you'd be looking at the 290X when it's out.

With your cooler you should be able to get your CPU up to about 4.3-4.7GHz. Next gen games are likely to be limited on an i5, but saying that here is near blasphemy :)

It's not a bad card, any card is good relative to its use. The 680s are limited already though, which means they will have limited use and not much longevity with regards to playing new releases with as close to maximum settings as possible.

This is all due to the 2GB and 256 bit bus combination. Settings are having to be lowered already to maintain frame rates, where as on cards with higher memory bandwidth and more RAM, they aren't.

Preaching to the choir, spoffle ;) At 1080p the 680 will perform all right, but an upgrade from that would be something like the 290X (at 4GB/512bit, it's not going to struggle). I'd have ordered an Asus 7970 DCII over the 680, but that's already done.

Im an Nvidia Fan Boy... :D

Im having problems, i cant overclock because i cant seem to access bios..

You should try a change ;) The 7970s are at a stupidly low price at the moment.

Your board may have a boot to BIOS option, if not just keep pressing del (or whatever) as soon as you power on.

Tried it all it will not go in, it did monday when i built the machine.. before os was installed i just cant seem to boot it in now

In case there's some weird problem with the card. If you can get into the UEFI firmware via the IGP you can at least check it works ok. Most boards have HDMI + DVI.

Apparently its the keyboard i've just been reading up..

Ill sort it tomorrow, need to read up on overclocking.

Depending on how funds are in a year or so i may update the gpu, but for now it runs everything i need, CS:GO/DOTA2 it may struggle with the new BF4 we'll see

For what's been said before in this thread..

You will not run into any problems running 1920x1080 on a GTX 680. You might not be able to reach 120fps on everything, but you will max 60 easily.

For your BIOS fault, see the other thread.

For overclocking, try this for the CPU: http://rog.asus.com/tag/haswell-overclocking-guide/

For the GPU's, check this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1265110/the-gtx-670-overclocking-master-guide

It's for 670 but the process and tools are the same for a 680.

I have the same CPU and the same cooler as you and I'm reaching insane CPU clocks on haswell, so good luck :)
