Future upgrade (amd)

Well...

We don't know what AMD's plan is with Steamroller, will it be FM2, AM3+ or a new socket all together.. If they do go FM2 you're in luck..

Otherwise you have no upgrade path... Sorry to be so blunt.

The 5800k is top of the list for FM2 sockets (beside the 6800k but that upgrade isn't worth the money).

That GPU is really as high as you can go without the CPU bottlenecking the GPU..

Like i said before, if Steamroller isn't FM2, you'll need to get a new motherboard and CPU to upgrade.

EDIT: I have just noticed all your previous threads, what the deal?

The other thread was if I was going intel, struggling to decide what to go for.

I already know I need another mobo, one of the pci-e slots are broken on my current one

Steamroller won't be on FM2 in any way, this was confirmed a while back (Before Doomed posted)

You bought into a socket that AMD killed within a year, and I'm sorry.

You have no upgrade path on your socket.

You need to jump socket.

AM3+ may's well be dead, and 1150 has a confirmed refresh next year, it may/may not get a 14nm chip though (I wouldn't ever like to put a gamble on that, and I usually play fast and loose when I come to guessing a platforms future CPU's)

I need a new motherboard anyway. So could you suggest a good upgrade if i was to change motherboard? (I can increase the budget if need be)

Another dead platform?

If I was you OP, I'd be looking at getting a B-Grade Z68 board ; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-252-GI&groupid=595&catid=689

Another 7870 LE and a better PSU.

You could go for an FX8320, AM3+ board, 7870 LE and a better PSU (I wouldn't personally, I'd always pick an i5/i7 for a multi-GPU set up, but the cost is greater)

But recording and rendering could benefit with the FX83 (Depending what you actually use to render)

If I was going to go i5/i7, what sort of components would you recommend? Just trying to do a cost/benefit analysis here :)

EDIT*

Oh, and I use Sony Vegas to render.

Would I need to change anything else if I went over to the i5? I.e PSU?

At the moment I can play all the games I need at max settings, so that's not the problem. It's just rendering.

Oh, and my CPU cooler - would it be compatible?

It's not a stock cooler.

What cooler do you have now?

Haswell runs hot because of the IHS not being soldered, so 4.4GHZ is what I'd aim for.

I currently have the Silverstone Argon SST-AR01 CPU Cooler - 120mm (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1150 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £28.99

and if I wanted to splash a little more cash and go with i7, same board just different processor? Would a PSU upgrade be needed then?

I'd put more money into GPU (And ultimately PSU) before getting an i7 with a 7870 LE, frankly, an i5's a bit overkill for it.

You wouldn't need another PSU with the i7 though.

I don't like spending a bunch of money at once, even if I have it available. So I will probably update my GPU (maybe SLI) further on down the line.

An i5 should be pretty good for me though.
