My brother wants me to build him a new pc (just the tower, no os, monitor, peripherals etc) but he probably wont have the money til around Easter. Budget will be around £500.

Now I have 2 options:
1. Build him a new system from scratch, mostly used for general use, maybe a bit of photoshop and video editing and light gaming.

2. Sell him my current pc (see sig) and build myself a new pc! Mainly used for uni work and general tasks, but i do use it for gaming so it would need to be of a better spec than this one.

So my question is in a few months time would i be able to build a better rig than mine for approx £500? (I think I would use Vista but I can get this through uni for free). Ta.

500 is a little tight for a new rig, even in a few months time you won't be able to put one together that's actually any better than your current rig I don't think.

You can have a look at this full system form OCUK:

Quite a good budget gaming rig but not actually any better than what you already have, except from AM2 & DDR2 which is compatible with future AM2+ CPUs.

If your brother won't be playing much game then save on the GFX card by going for a 7600GS/GT and put the extra cash into a X2 3800+.
