Future upgrade

I need some advice guys.

I am sat at my desk, my gutted PC infront of me, I am following your 'How to' System build on my laptop. I have just inserted my PSU though I can only get two screws aligned and in. Do I need to have all four or will two suffice?

Ok it all put together and has power!

One thing it is saying is that there is no master HHD detected, problem is I cant find any of those jumper thing that sets them up..

I have set it to boot from DVD drive.

Any suggestions?

Ok, I THINK i have found one, next I can turn it of will put it in.

Apart from that I have noticed that the lights on the front dont work. Are they necy?

BIOS seems to have found the DVD drive and both hard drives.

What lights ? The ones for the hard drives ? Yes you will want to know when the drives are active and when they are in use. When something is not working they can indicate when there is a problem by flashing a certain pattern also. (Like when a game crashes).

when it load up is says something like 'Hard disk not xxxx (its to fast and I cant read it).

I have set the boot up from my new HHD and windows loads up ok.

Both HDD are showing up in windows

Power cut half way through doesnt help my confidence!

BIOS says 'Adapter 1'
'No hard drive detected!'.

IN BIOS is has the DVD in Primary IDE

SATA 1 - Samsung
SATA 2 - WDC

SO why does it say it cant find it? Or is this something else?

Also I have Windows astil on my other HDD. I was hoping to use easy transfer to port setting over but its says I have to save a file from my 'old' computer. How do I do this? Its not like I can go log on to it.

ANyway I am calling it a night, i have my anti virus and necy software on :)

Thanks all

From past experience I had to format the hard drive I bought first before i could get it to work. I did this through using a utility on a floppy disk back in 2005, but you can do this with Windows and fomat it / partition the drive if need be.

I htink I found the problem. I plugged what where the front USB ports into the wrong slot, making it think there should be something there. The front slots now work so I htink thats sorted.

I have managed to get my power light on.. but its doesnt flash when the HDD is in use. I swapped it over but no joy.

Does your new motherboard come with a manual with installation instructions. I know my Asus one did and it was very useful. Definitely sounds like it can't see your hard disk for some reason. Have you tried looking on the motherboard support forums ?

When I go in to the BIOS both HDD show up there so it does see it. I can also access the files/HDD in Windows.

I did use the manual. This 'Adapter 1' must be some kind of connection/connector?

I think its just the HDD front panel light that isnt working. It would light up when the PC was turned on, then flash when the HDD was in use. Now it just stays on without flashing.

I wouldnt worry about the not detected message. Mine has said that every since i changed HDD's from IDE to SATA. It has never presented any problems to me, boots fine etc.

I have noticed it starting to do something. Whether on the internet or a game every now and then I hear something 'power down/cycle down'. I am, hoping its just a feature of the motherboard. I it a similar sound to when the PC shuts off power when closing down. (THough obviously everything stays on an works).

Its not the fans as they still show in the info with RPM etc. The DVD and HDD still work. What could it be?

Well, i was playing WOW and it froze on me. Nothing worked and I couldnt get back into windows and the sound froze on the same note.

I took the temps when it restarted and they were CPU 44o, sys 37o. Are these normal, or could it be a power thing?

I have checked my RAM and run Windows 7 own Memory checker it it came back fine. I also have up to date graphics drivers.

The only other thing it can be in my PSU. However its brand new so there cant be anything wrong with it?
