Fux broken packages?

I went the synaptic & marked gnome for install & hit apply it said could not apply changes, fix broken packages first. How?

Mint 16 Cinnamon 2.0.14
I got down to this command sudo dpkg --remove -force --force-remove-reinstreq wine1.4, not working. I get dpkg: error: conflicting actions -f (--field) and -r (--remove).

Try following this guide.

cant remember the last time I did anything like this through Synaptic I usually use terminal

Is it just wine that is broken? Have you tried purging?
In a terminal type, sudo apt-get purge wine
See if that works.

Nope, says wine isn't installed, I thought some wine stuff was left, but maybe not.
