Fuzzy Text after Win 10

Hi, I’m not a gamer, but I thought it would be ok to bring my problem to this forum as I couldn’t find anywhere else.

I have a home build pc with an Asus M4A88T-M 880G Onboard Graphics mATX Motherboard, AMD Phenom II X4 840 Socket AM3 3.2GHz 2MB Cache Processor, Kingston 4gb Ddr3 1333mhz Memory, which was built in 2011, and a Samsung Synchmaster730BF monitor.

I installed win 10 a while ago and noticed poor graphics (fuzzy text etc) on many of the programs such as Office 2003, Open Office, Acrobat, Chrome – in fact now I come to think about it pretty much everything I use. It has now started to irritate me and I have to do something about it.

I have tried changing resolution on the Samsung monitor, and using a Sony TV but nothing improves the fuzzy text. The Synch master resolution is 1280 x 1024, and the motherboard supports DVI 2560 x 1600, the TV is X-Reality picture engine resolution: 1366 x 768, and the motherboard supports HDMI 1920 x 1200.

It is quite possible I don’t understand the relationship between on board graphics and the monitor, but is there a cheap and easy way of making the graphics look sharp? Would installing a cheap graphics card solve the problem? Or is there another way? Or is win 10 the culprit when combined with an old system,

Thanks for your time and hopefully a solution

Your resolution needs setting to the MONITOR's native res for it to be sharp and crisp. Anything lower or higher will always cause distortion or 'fuzzy text'.

So if your monitors res is 1280x1024 you need it set at this. Btw that is a VERY old monitor. Recommend you get yourself at least a nice 24" 1080p monitor at least (1920x1080 res)! ;)

Thanks for the response Sparkx, I have set both the TV and the old Samsung to their native res and it's still fuzzy. I would buy a new monitor if I was sure it would cure the fuzzy text!!

Sounds like you have Windows text set to large or medium. Basically it makes your icons look fuzzy.

This does not sound like resolution, its a windows setting for text/icon size. Basically it is too big for the resolution you are using. The option should be in your options.

In fact.

All settings-System-Display-Scale and Layout.

I think that's the culprit. Mines set to 125% for 1080p, looks fine. Perhaps yours needs to be 100%.

Thanks Space Monkey I just went through clear type adjustment and it is set on, no change to fuzz.

Thanks VonScar Text is 100% (Recommended) so no change there.

The odd thing is that the Windows pre login screen photo is absolutely crystal clear on the Sony TV screen, no fuzziness whatsoever, but no text either. Which would seem to to mean (unless my logic is faulty or I'm just paranoid) that by logging into Win 10 the display settings are changed or compromised somehow.

Any thoughts?

It doesn't change much either way clear type on or off, thanks again.

Mine is the same fuzzy with on board graphics similar board to yours. When i had a 8800gt card in it was crystal clear so you would benefit from a graphics card imo.

I'm looking to get this card soon seems reasonably priced and is silent :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £73.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

Thanks ScBHavoK, what's your motherboard?

My onboard graphics is ATI Radeon 4250 according to device manager, although the manual says it's 4290, but I don't know if that makes a difference.

Would you post again to let me know if it's fixed the problem, please?
