Is this just how the text renders on the 2407?

See actual page here: http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=59234 obviously the pic is showing it bigger, but if yours is the same as mine, you can see 'pinkish' fuzzyness, esp around the bold letters.

It mainly effects smaller fonts, such as the folder list in Outlook Express. Cleartype is on (without it the text is very thin).

Is this normal for the Dell? Is it normal for 24" monitors?

(Ps, the monitor is in Desktop mode)

Yes, it was on in those pics, and yeah I'm using DVI.

With it off, text is very thin, and hard to read (esp small text) even with the screen up close. But it does lesson the fuzziness and is then only apparent in the bold text, mainly the characters with curves, such as S and C etc (but just grey, not pink).

What's yours like with clearType on?

I've got the 2007WFP rather than the 2407WFP, but I do get the 'pinkness' round text on that link if I turn on Cleartype, especially on the bold characters. With Cleartype off the pink is completely gone.

So I don't think the screen is the cause, I think it's just something to do with the anti-aliasing Cleartype is doing.

I much prefer Cleartype off, but then I've never used a 2407WFP so I can't comment on whether I would prefer Cleartype off if I had one.

I use clear type on with my 2407 but I'm not at home so can't comment on if I get the same issue although I've never noticed it before.

i don't appear to get any fuzzy or pinkness around text on that link.

i did just wake up so prolly wouldn't be able to see it until i've had my cuppa tea.

brook. are you not happy with the 2407 cos this is your 3rd thread now about yours.

Monitor: 2407wfp a04 (bought yesterday :D)

Looking at your link, the writing is absolutely pin sharp, no fuzziness or pink discoluration (thats with me having my head up against the monitor) im currently running in desktop mode with adjusted colours setting (pc custom colour: R86, G 85, B 84) and brightness at 25

Hope it helps

I've used clearType tuner to lesson the effect, but it has made the fonts quite thin (almost like cleartype is off). I spend a lot of time infront of the PC and so I need good comfort level on reading text, otherwise I will get eye fatigue.

Benji - I guess I am really hard to please :( also, the other problems (of ghosting) have been sorted now :)

1mm3 - have you got clearType on or off?

Shine - thanks, look forward to your report.

Fish - thanks, not sure how similar the screen res/per size relates to our screens tho - what is your screens dot pitch?

Before it was with cleartype off. Ive just tried cleartype and i dont like it on, makes the text fuzzy, rather it off :)

I tried the CT tuners.. tbh I think it's a windows thing, as afterwards I noticed it on a CRT too  (aging but still brilliant Sony multiscan)

It doesn't matter now tho, as I sent the 2407 back, apart from the pink bits, the text was just too small for me.

Just don't ask what I ordered next lol :D

What revision is your 2007WFP dude? I have an A04 which has no issues like you have mentioned however my A02 did have a slight pinkish tinge on the edge of black bold text with certain typefaces. The A04 also has zero visible BG bleed on edge or corner.

(excuse the digital artifacting - digital slr + digital screen + combined = not so great mix :p)

Mine is A02. Btw I wasn't saying my 2007 has an issue, I was just pointing out that I thought the OPs problem might be caused by Cleartype. With Cleartype off text on my screen looks perfect so I'm sure there's nothing wrong with my screen.
